Re: Farmland Preservation Mapping Changes. Dear Property Owner,

Over the last few months, the Planning & Zoning Department has been working on updating the Farmland Preservation Maps affecting many areas of Adams County. When originally adopted, many agricultural parcels were not included in the mapping. This created issues when a farmer wanted to claim the Farmland Preservation Income Tax Credit. The proposed updated mapping has added those parcels to the Farmland Preservation mapping. Additionally, the Town of Jackson opted into the program. These parcels are also included in the proposed mapping. You are receiving this letter because one or more of your parcels are proposed to be added to the Farmland Preservation mapping. The underlying zoning district will not change, but you will now be under the Farmland Preservation restrictions. Essentially, this means that unless you are the owner of an operating farm on the property, you will not be able to build a house unless you successfully obtain a rezoning of the property. Additionally, by being added, you would now be eligible for the Income Tax Credit if you are actively farming this parcel and meet other criteria.

To determine which of your properties are being added, please visit the Adams County website at http://www.adamscountylandrecords.com/  From there, click the blue box in the lower right corner that says “Adams County Web Portal”. Then select “Zoning Application.” In the upper left corner you can search for your parcel(s) by address or Parcel Number. You can find these numbers on your tax bill.

The Adams County Planning & Zoning Committee will be conducting a public hearing on this matter at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
